The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. My dad, an amazing storyteller read this to me on holiday when I was 6. I can still remember the excitement I felt when Lucy first entered Narnia and when Edmund untied the green silk ribbon to reveal a box of Turkish Delight, yum!

I loved reading the Sophie stories by Dick King-Smith to my children. My daughter loved all of the animals and the adventures that Sophie had in her quest to become a lady farmer. Mrs Mullen

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Mrs Forrest says, I am from Oxford like Alice and I love the nonsense of it. My favourite character is the Cheshire Cat. This was the first book to be concerned with children’s entertainment rather than teaching them what adults expected.

The Snow Lambs by Debi Gilori is very appropriate this week. On a wild snowy evening, the sheep are being brought down from the hills but Bess the sheepdog has gone missing. Where has he gone and will he return? The language and illustrations are beautiful.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl was Mrs Miller’s favourite book as a child and remains a favourite now. She loves reading the book to her own children and says, ‘Imagine owning your own chocolate factory!!!’

Mrs Miller

The Gruffalo is Mrs Todd’s favourite book. She says she read it to her children and now they read it to their children. She also loves reading it to Reception and getting them involved in the story. The graphics are beautiful. (She also likes making Gruffalo hats!)

Mrs Todd

Jack and the Flumflum Tree. This is Mrs Balme’s favourite story to read aloud to Early Years children as they love to join in with the rhyming words and then roll about laughing at the phrase, ‘Don’t get your knickers in a twist!’

Mrs Balme

Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy. Mrs Herron loves this book. She says it is typical of a mam with her children, all who want attention! Her dog loves the story too!

Mrs Herron

Stig of the Dump by Clive King. Mr Dinsley remembers reading this book countless times growing up and it is now his favourite book to teach. He loves how it demonstrates the freedom children have to run over with their imaginations time and time again.
